The mixed-signal ASIC is used for wired industrial communication and embeds a high-precision TX/RX front-end and ARM Cortex M3 processor. It contains a fieldbus standard focusing on safety relevant industrial systems. The communication ASIC is commonly used as part of a sensor network area in a typical factory automation environment. Information and energy is transferred on the same 2-wire unshielded cable. The ASIC AFE contains both the RX as TX (Line driver) chain. An analog BIST (Built In Self Test) is foreseen to lower the IC cost by using a full digital tester.
