For a passive RFID tag (EPCglobal Gen-2 Class-1 compliant), ICsense developed the analog part of the ASIC. The tag is powered from a UHF communication wave and uses backscattering for its uplink communication. Worst-case, the power rectification of the 860-960MHz carrier results in a supply of only µWs, requiring state-of-the-art ultralow-power circuitry. The tag’s ASIC implements multiple functions such as a digital controller, non-volatile memories, an analog RF front-end, and power harvesting and regulation. Read the press release here.
